Story of change : Liberty Magwegwe a rising small holder export farmer from Shurugwi
Shurugwi, Zimbabwe – Liberty Magwegwe, a young farmer from the Gonye irrigation scheme in Shurugwi, is making waves in the agricultural sector. As part of the Takura program, Liberty has been successfully cultivating peas for export, and his achievements are nothing short of remarkable.
In 2023, Liberty was recognized as the fifth-best performing farmer overall, a testament to his dedication and expertise. The proceeds from his successful pea harvest enabled him to invest in a heifer, a significant step towards building a sustainable livelihood.
Looking ahead, Liberty is optimistic about the upcoming season and anticipates a bumper harvest. With the potential for increased yield and favorable market conditions, he plans to expand his livestock holdings by purchasing another heifer.
The Takura program has played a pivotal role in empowering young farmers like Liberty. By providing access to resources, training, and support, the program has enabled them to realize their agricultural potential. Liberty’s success story is a shining example of the positive impact that such initiatives can have on rural communities.
