Land Prep Underway at Ruchanyu

Land Prep Underway at Ruchanyu: Scaling Smallholder Impact in Shurugwi

Land preparation in progress today (10 July 2025). Ruchanyu group (irrigation scheme), Shurugwi. Takura is transforming communal farmers into commercial entrepreneurs.

Ruchanyu is a 40 ha establishment owned by 78 smallholder farmers. 45% of the farmers are female. Farmers used to work in silos, without any market engagement initiatives.

Takura is helping farmers cluster for scaled up, market-driven production, leveraging the great soils and other resources and our disposal. We work with markets that help us increase the incomes for our farmers. That is where they generate their livelihoods from. Each market decision is farmer-centric. We crowd-source inputs, coordinate production, compliance and certifications. Our world-class packhouse can dispatch 50 tons of produce weekly, with 95% being Europe-bound.
